Dave now has an NG tube (down his nose into his stomach) in an attempt to drain the bile from his stomach and relieve some pressure. After a painful, sleepless night, Dave got an Ativan IV this morning and was able to sleep for many hours. This afternoon he went to radiology for an abdominal tap and they removed 4 liters of fluid. His last tap was on the 4/19, so the rate of fluid production seems to have diminished (Avastin appears to be working!). The most pressing issue (pun intended) is that his bowels aren't working and he has developed massive hemorrhoids. Please continue to pray for normal bowel and bladder function, relief from pain, and a good night's sleep.

Did you know that it helps you be able to spell the word if you pronounce all the letters? Hemorrhoids is a crappy word to spell, so we pronounce it him-or-hoyds. Plus, it just makes us feel better about having to say the anal word. You can also use it in a sentence more creatively, such as:
ReplyDelete1. which would you rather have, him or hoyds?
2. we were walking in the garden discussing this or that, him or hoyds, and whatnot.
3. when I had my devotions this morning, I pondered: nothing is too big for You, O God - not sickness or pain, not grief or limbo, not him or hoyds.

My prayers are with you, Dave, for sleep and the return of normal physiology. I'm around this afternoon if you are up for a visitor, and of course, if not, I will simply pray that Jesus, the best visitor we can have, is there with you and Joanne.
